Perhaps the most iconic landmark in the centre of Clapham Common is the bandstand constructed in 1890. It is the largest bandstand in London and a Grade II Listed Building. It was in regular use until well after World War II, but fell out of use in the 1960s and with little upkeep over the years it deteriorated seriously and started to crumble.
